          On 26 September 2014, College of Environment and Natural Resources, Can Tho University, successfully organized International conference on “Environmental Protection toward Sustainable Development” at Learning Resources Center. More than 140 participants come from research institutions as well as universities in Japan, France, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam to participate in the conference.

On the conference, we were pleased to welcome Associate Professor Le Trong Hung – Vice Head of Ministry Office of Science Technology and Environment – Ministry of Education and Training, and Professor Nguyen Thanh Phuong – Vice Rector of Can Tho University to attend and give speech, leading future collaboration in training and research on environment and natural resources.
Of 45 reports were orally presented in six technical sessions (Waste and wastewater treatment, Ecotoxicology, Climate change and sustainable development, Integrated Urban Environmental Management, Water supply and Sanitation, Natural Resources Management); of which 15 reports were mainly done by staff of College of Environment and Natural Resources.
Particularly, fifty manuscripts which were reviewed and published as special issue on “Environmental Protection toward Sustainable Development” on the Journal of Science and Technology – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Among them, 18 published articles (36%) came from CTU lecturers and researchers.

In addition, over 40 posters were displayed at the conference. In the meantime, sponsors also introduced their business as well as products related to training and research on environment and natural resources.

After the conference 2014, two universities (Faculty of Environment – Thu Dau Mot University – Binh Duong and Faculty of Biotechnology and Environmental Engineering – HCMC University of Food Industry) signed the memorandum of understanding as members of International Forum on Green Technology and Management (IFGTM). Since 26 September 2014 at 5:30 p.m. there were 11 institutions and universities as official members of IFGTM including 01 foreign university and 10 Vietnamese unversities and institutions.
This conference helped show CTU staff’s  capacity on training and research on environment and natural resources, and created a wide link between universities and institutions. This crucial link faciliated CTU to strengthen training and research activities about environment, natural resources and climate change adaptation in the future.
