On October 22nd, 2021, the College of Environmental and Natural Resources (CENRes), cooperated with the Research Institue for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong Institute), Can Tho University organized the 5th scientific conference “Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change”. The conference on "Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change" is held every two years to share the results of scientific studies on environment, natural resources and climate change. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 5th scientific conference held online. About 100 delegates from various universities, local agencies participated in this conference.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU, shared that according to the wishes of the Prime Minister, CTU will be the research institution, proposed policies and solutions to implement of the Government's Resolution 120/NQ-CP on climate resilient and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region. Can Tho University will work with provinces and cities in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta to implement the Government’s Resolution 120/NQ-CP, which calls for the development of climate change adaptation plans to ensure the region’s long-term sustainability.

The 5th conference has had a plenary session and four parallel sub-committees. At the plenary session, there were 3 main reports on (1) curriculum content, scientific research and technology transfer; (2) research cooperation towards 2025 of the CENRes and DRAGON-Mekong Institute; (3) State management on environmental protection in Can Tho city and cooperation orientation with CTU of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Can Tho city (DONRE Can Tho).

On the occasion of this conference, the MOU signing ceremony between CENRes, DRAGON-Mekong Institute and DONRE Can Tho was signed, with the three specific aims: (1) boosting the cooperation activities in terms of sharing information on law and science technology; (2) supporting resources on consulting state's environmental protection laws and regulations, science technology; (3) organizing in training and implementing project relating to environmental protection and climate change.

In order to share the results as well as orientation for scientific research in the fields of environment, natural resources and climate change, high-quality research articles that reflects some hot issues were selected to be published in the CTU Journal of Science, special issue on "Environment and Climate Change".

The conference served as a forum for scienties, managers and relevant stakeholders discussing common challenges and interest. This would lead to obvious solutions related to sustainable development in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta
